Quills and Questions #1 (Let's Start At The Beginning)

Welcome to Quills and Questions.

This has been something bubbling in the back of my mind that I am now finally getting around to. Over the last few years, whilst working on my author career, I've had numerous people ask me questions about my journey, tips and tricks, the small details that people don't think about when they start this path.

I try to answer people's questions the best I can, but oftentimes I can't cover everything in a single discussion. So, Quills and Questions will be my way to cover topics that people ask about often, and discuss things that not many other authors do.

So, let's start at the beginning.

The first thing I always tell people who are interested in publishing a book IS DO YOUR RESEARCH! There are so many different ways to publish a book nowadays that you have to find the method that best works for you. My journey is very specific, and the way I do things doesn't always work out for everyone. Don't feel pressured to choose the first thing you stumble across because you're in a rush to get your book out there. Figure out if Self-Publishing or Traditional Publishing works better for your budget. Find what platforms are best for marketing (I'm still trying to figure that one out myself). And don't be afraid to take risks.

Remember: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained.

Here's what I want you to chew on if you're contemplating publishing your works:

Why do you want to do it?

If it's just to share with friends, as a retirement hobby, or just something casual? Go for it! There are free sites out there that you can use to upload your stories and share with others.

If you're looking to turn this into a career? Then buckle up, and get ready. Because this is a hard-working road that takes a lot of dedication, time, and patience. Only you can decide what road is best suited for you. Only you can decide what schedule to follow that fits into your everyday life.

But I hope you stick around for the Quills and Questions posts to come. I hope I can be helpful, give you good suggestions, and maybe help you get your foot in the door. Because that, is the first challenging step.

See you soon!

Rina
